Volume 13: A cute new pattern (and am I sewing a wedding dress???)

I have so much to tell you today!

Teacup Zipper Pouch

First up, I posted a video tutorial for my newest pattern yesterday and it’s been well received (thank you!) Sometimes these little cute projects are just the ticket and I heard from many people who got the pattern and started immediately. Sewing is therapy, after all. Grab the pattern here or on Etsy if you prefer. It’s a great scrap buster and makes a perfect “little something” gift.

Mother’s Day

I received two amazing gifts for Mother’s Day. One was this shirt (there are tons are great sewing and hobby shirts on Life is Good!) and the other I really shouldn’t show you yet because I filmed a video about her for next week, but I can’t help it because she’s SO CUTE.

It’s a porch goose and I’m in love. I already sewed her an outfit.

I’m not going to talk about it any more because the video is coming! But please tell me if you have one and how much you love it.

Tea Cups

We went thrifting yesterday and I found a couple of pretty teacups with their saucers and I have a special project in mind for them. It is super hard to find tea cups with their saucers intact and I’ve been on the hunt so I can make teacup pin cushions. They’d be cute without saucers too, of course, but I like the idea of gluing the cup to the saucer so the pin cushion has a little place for small scissors, a thimble, or other little things. If I can make it work, I’ll post a tutorial, of course. I’ve made mason jar pin cushions, so it shouldn’t be much different.

More Ladybugs

I finished all the ladybugs I need for Layla’s quilt this week. For the final 8, I was able to get into a flow state and finish them pretty quickly, since I had the process down pretty well by then. Of all the options for the row in between the ladybugs and butterflies, Layla liked the Greek Keys idea the best, so that will be next and I’ll film a video tutorial, for sure (it’s a fun block with lots of layout options!) After that, I need top and bottom rows and borders and that’s all!

Wedding Dress

As you know, my daughter Natalie is engaged and we’ve been dress shopping, but she’s not finding what she wants for the budget she likes, so she’s confident that I can make it (I go back and forth between confidence and self doubt, lol).

Here’s what she’s drawn up:

It’s not complicated, so you wouldn’t think it would be hard to find a pattern for this exact style, but alas, I’m struggling. I have some patterns at home (thanks to a few generous people who sent me their vintage pattern stash, thank you!) and I have ordered the two patterns below, one for the bodice and one for the super full skirt. But that was before she landed on this more squared, slighted off the shoulder neckline, so now I’m not sure. I also ordered 5 fabrics swatches from Mood. Thank goodness for Mood, or obtaining fabric would be the hard part!

I do look forward to making that giant bow she wants. If you have any suggestions or advice, I'm receptive to all of it! I think what I’m struggling to decide is if I should add boning to one of these bodice designs, or use an actual corset bodice and figure out how to attach a gathered skirt. Thoughts?

Thanks for reading! I hope you have a lovely week and make time to sew for fun — maybe some teacup pouches :)

Love, Nikki
