Volume 11: The Bees Knees
New Sewing Labels!
Before I get to what I’ve been up to this week, I want to share these fun sew-in woven labels I designed for my shop! I made this first batch pretty simple so I could see how the process goes and I think they turned out so cute!.They come in packs of 8 and you can order them here :)
I put one in the shirt I made that I shared last week :) And speaking of sewing clothes, I posted a video on YouTube yesterday and answered all the viewer questions about garment sewing. There were a lot of really great questions, so I hope you find it helpful if you’re wanting to jump into sewing clothes.
Secrets of the bees
I watched this new documentary about bees on Disney+ the other day and was fascinated!! So, so interesting, it’s incredible, not only what bees can do and how intelligent they are, but how technology and science have allowed us to learn so much and to document it so beautifully. I highly recommend watching it.
Speaking of Bees
Maybe I should find space in the quilt I’ve been working on for a row of bees, huh? For now, I’m working on the rows of lady bugs and I had an epiphany yesterday about arranging them. I filmed an improv lady bug tutorial that will go live sometime next week and you can see the progress I’ve made then (my usual posting day is Monday, but we will be in Colorado for a funeral this weekend and the beginning of the week, so I’ll post it when we get back).
Things I’m Enjoying
Most of my sewing time has been on the lady bugs this week, so that’s all I have in the sewing department today, but here are some other great things I’ve loved lately:
I’ve had to adopt a low acid diet for a health reason and I made this stir fry last night that was really good!
For the reason above, I had to wean off of caffeine/coffee (eek, I know), but I’ve been making a latte out of this chicory tea in the afternoon with almond milk and maple foam and I really like it and look forward to it. I will say, if you like sugary coffee, I’m not sure this would be a good alternative, but I usually drink black coffee, so it’s working for me. I started weaning off coffee 5 days ago and today I feel great, it really wasn’t too bad.
My husband and I have been watching the James Bond movies in order from 1962 onward. We’re in 1971 now, so we’ve watched several and wow, was he sleazy LOL. We’ve come a long way in how we portray women in film. But anyway, it’s been really fun to see how cinematography has progressed, from the fight scenes to the set building. It’s been a fun side quest.
The new Mumford and Sons album has been on repeat, and I already bought the vinyl, it’s so good.
I’m looking forward to trying the newest Helen’s Closet pattern. It’s a dress style I wear quite a bit, so I know I can get a lot of wear out of them when I sew a few up!
When I took Instagram off my phone and broke my scrolling habit, I wanted to subscribe to some magazines to have around. My first Smithsonian came yesterday and it’s great! So many interesting things.
I hope you have a lovely week and enjoy some Spring weather (if you’re in that part of the world, that is).
Cheers and Happy Sewing :)
