Volume 12: The mini quilts are hung!

Hello, friend! We were in Colorado for a funeral last weekend, hence my absence and lack of video and newsletter. Our sister-in-law battled cancer for many years and fought a good fight. She’s free from pain and with the Lord now. We had such good fellowship with family while there, and in that sense, it was a great trip.

Colorado is our homeland, we grew up there and all our kids were born there. I LOVE this photo of us :)

My New Office (sort of)

I’m taking my video editing back over from Layla because she’s gotten pretty busy (I knew it would happen eventually!) I knew when this happened, I would want to get an iMac to edit on for the sake of my eyes, so I bought a cute yellow iMac and set up a little office in our guest room.

SO, since I spend time in here now, I needed to make it cutesy and finally hung the mini quilt portraits I made. If you haven’t seen them before, or would like to make some of your own, there are some videos you can watch here and here.

I am considering moving my sewing room upstairs when Natalie gets married and moves out. I love my big space downstairs, but I knew it would be a bummer not having any windows, and it turns out I was right. Casey said he’ll move my heavy dresser/cutting table for me, no problem (he’s a keeper), but I should be really sure first LOL.

Quilt Progress

I’ve also made progress on Layla’s quilt and posted a video yesterday with a tutorial for the improv lady bugs. This quilt is kind of a slow one! But that’s just a good reminder that we don’t have to quilt for speed. We can do it for the joy and for the art and let it take as long as it takes to get it how we really want it.

Mother’s Day Sewing

I made my mom the cutest little thing for Mother’s Day! But I can’t share it because she might read this. But I did film a tutorial and make a pattern and you’ll get to see that next Monday. But if you missed it, I did write up a list of great Mother’s Day gift ideas you can sew. There’s still time for any of these things, none of them are time consuming and they’re all pretty scrap friendly!

In my golf era?

I started taking golf lessons! I’ve only had one so far, but it is so much fun and not as hard to learn as I thought (though I took tennis lessons a couple years ago and there are similar skills involved). I have some clubs now and have gone to the driving range to practice and it’s good fun.

This came about because I am now a retired homeschooler and have more discretionary time than I’ve ever had before and I was floundering a little bit. I’m still working on my first novel and having a great time with that, and of course I tend to my business and my at-home hobbies, but I knew I needed something that got my outside and around other people, that I could practice alone, but also play with my husband or other people. Golf fit the bill!

NOW, there is a whole world of golf fashion that is just as fun as actually playing! I’ve ordered a few cute things, and if the weather will ever warm up (seriously), I will get some cute golf dresses and skorts. I mean, what other sport lets you wear a cute dress to play??

As far as sewing golf clothes, though, there aren’t a lot of modern patterns out there. Jalie has a few — I like the Jocelyn Polo Dress in particluar — and Greenstyle Creations has good patterns for activewear in general, but I think I might need to go with vintage patterns for this one.

If you have suggestions, I’d love to hear them! And if you’re a woman who golfs, let’s chat, because both times I’ve been, I was the only woman in sight, other than my instructor the first time and my daughter the second. More women should golf! It’s fun and not that hard!
