Quilted Christmas Stocking and Stocking Name Tag Patterns

I added TWO new sewing patterns to the shop this week! Learn to sew simple and modern quilted Christmas stockings AND the cutest little personalized stocking name tags (or reusable gift tags!) with this new set of sewing patterns. Even if you’ve never quilted before, you can absolutely make these sweet stockings. I try very hard to make sure my patterns are beginner friendly and these two are no exception. I’m so excited to share with you this great new duo of patterns for your Christmas sewing and I hope it will add some handmade cheer to your holiday decor!

As usual, I’ve also created video walkthroughs for both of these projects! But first, you can buy both patterns in a bundle right here in the shop or here on Etsy if you prefer.

Quilted Christmas Stockings

I set out to create a stocking pattern with a classic shape, just the right size, that is very versatile and will work with many different fabrics. That means you can make stockings to fit your own unique style using this pattern. The video tutorial gives you ideas for different methods of quilting lines, which can really add a lot of character to these stockings.

Purchase the quilted Christmas stocking pattern here in my shop, or here on Etsy if you’d prefer.

For this project, you will need a walking foot attachment for your sewing machine. You’ve heard me talk about this before, but this is a must have item for quilting! Some machines have them built in, but it’s likely you’ll need to purchase one. Here’s a universal one that fits many machines.

You’ll also need fabrics and cotton batting. Any fabrics will work for this project as long as they’re woven (not stretchy.) Try pretty cottons, brocades, denim, duck cloth, velvet, or even many home decor fabrics. This project is very versatile in that so many different fabrics will work beautifully! It works very well with plaids, since they provide you with built-in lines to quilt across!

Personalized Christmas Stocking Name Tags

Even though I made my family’s Christmas stockings many years ago, they actually don’t have our names on them! Inspiration struck as I was creating the stocking pattern and I decided to make stocking name tags this year and create a pattern for those too.

Grab this new sewing pattern here in my shop or here on Etsy if you prefer!

This little tag is very easy to make and really adds a little something special and personal to your Christmas decor. The pattern for these includes the pattern pieces and written instructions with photos, but of course, I’ve created a video walkthrough for these tags too.

For these tags, you have some options! You could get creative with the embellishments, although the pattern includes the template for the holly leaves. You could also use your child’s handwriting for the embroidery to make it extra special.

For the eyelet at the top, I use this pretty handy spring loaded hole punch and eyelet setter. It punches a hole with one end and sets the eyelet in with the other! (Funny story, I forgot about the setter side of this tool when I made the video and couldn’t figure out why the hammer method wasn’t working, haha!)

These tags would also make great reusable gift tags for your family members and loved ones, or even sweet handmade ornaments for the Christmas tree.

If you decide to make some stockings or tags, I’d love to see them! Tag me on Instagram and let me see how you’ve made this pattern your own :)

Cheers!
