Flower Power Pillow Tutorial

My teen daughter spotted a pink velvet flower shaped throw pillow in a photo somewhere recently and asked if I could make one for her room. Um, of course I could! I made her a velvet flower pillow AND THEN I went on to design a patchwork version using the fat quarters I’d just received from my Annie’s subscription. I loved how it turned it so much that I went ahead and perfected the pattern piece, filmed a tutorial for YouTube, and added the printable PDF pattern for these cute flower pillows to my shop, so you can learn how to sew a flower pillow too!

How to Sew a Ruffled Throw Pillow Cover

My oldest daughter has been redecorating her room a little bit and requested some fresh throw pillows! We went fabric shopping and chose a couple great fabrics that fit her color scheme and she ordered some pillow forms from Amazon and I got to work.

She wanted ruffled throw pillows, which I was happy to make because ruffles are just sew pretty in home decor! I’m so glad ruffles seem to be making a comeback. I’ve been pinning a lot of bedding looks lately and am very drawn toward ruffley gingham sheets and pillow cases. They’re so pretty.

How to Sew an Easy Apron

This sewing tutorial has been a long time coming! In fact, I’m surprised it’s taken me this long to create an apron tutorial because I’ve been making this same exact apron for literally decades. So, a little late, I know, but today I’m sharing with you how to sew a simple kitchen bib apron!

My mom is really the one who deserves credit for this apron, since she’s the one who started making these many years ago. She’s made countless aprons for housewarming gifts, bridal shower gifts, and birthday/Christmas gifts. During my first year of marriage, she made me an apron for every holiday that came along that year. So I had cute aprons in holiday fabrics to wear for years to come! So cute and clever.

How to Sew Easy Kitchen Tea Towels, 2 Ways

I have a great, easy kitchen sewing tutorial for you today! I wanted to sew a little something for Mothers Day gifts and I had the best little border print in my drawer, just perfect for some pretty, sewn tea towels. DIY kitchen towels are so easy and they make such sweet gifts. Also, these tea towels somehow last a very long time. I received a few from my sister when I was first married and while other kitchen towels have come and gone, I still use the ones she made!

I’ve since made even more tea towels for myself after scoring a couple of fun prints and a heathered linen at Hobby Lobby in the clearance bin recently. A ruffle and/or fun trim take these kitchen towels to the next level, so I went ahead and filmed a video tutorial to share with you here.

I’m excited to share them with you today, along with a hack for having Christmas pillows on display at Christmastime, but not having to store them. Don’t miss that tip at the end of the post!

How to Sew Easy Pot Holders with Hand Pockets

I’m reviving a tutorial from my old blog for these handy, easy to sew DIY pot holder mitts. I sewed a bunch of these up for Christmas that year, so I tried to create a design that was easy to mass produce — no fussy bindings or anything like that! I think it would be fun to whip up another batch this many years later, to gift to my current local friends, which is why I went looking for my old tutorial!

I love this style of pot holder in particular because it has pockets for your hands, so you’re not in as much danger of burning yourself as you are when using a basic square pot holder. Also, when cooking with kids, these mitts are great because they can grasp pans more easily that when wearing huge, clunky oven mitts!
