Introducing the Ruby Rag Doll Sewing Pattern

I am thrilled to introduce the newest PDF sewing pattern in the shop! Since the ballerina doll pattern’s release, I’ve had so many people ask for more dolls with yarn hair (because it is the MOST FUN). The Ruby doll quickly became my new favorite. As I made several versions of her, I realized how versatile she can be with different skin tones and hair colors, plus her easy-to-customize clothes.

Ruby comes with a complete wardrobe of changeable clothes! I made sure there are no fussy steps, so every little garment is sewn together in a way that eliminates the frustration that normally comes with sewing small things.

I try very hard to make all my patterns beginner friendly! While this pattern does assume a few intermediate skills like sewing tight curves and things like that, I still feel a beginner can tackle this pattern. If you need more help, though, there is an entire playlist on the PIn Cut Sew YouTube channel with videos on how to sew various elements of rag dolls! There is a video for yarn hair, a video for face embroidery, and even complete walk throughs of a few of my other doll patterns.

Let’s talk about Ruby’s yarn hair!

Currently, my yarn doll hair tutorial is my most popular video on YouTube! Yarn hair is something that seems intimidating or maybe time consuming until you actually do it. When you realized how simple it is with my method, you’ll be wanting to try all kinds of yarn hair styles.

Worsted or chunky yarn works best, but don’t be afraid to try other yarns for different effects. Unwinding chunky yarn can make it curly, textured yarns would be super fun, and chenille yarn would give a very cool effect too.

Ruby’s hair is designed to be made into pig tails, with or without bangs, but I have plans for an upcoming tutorial on hair that can be left down or put in any style. Stay tuned for that pattern and tutorial in the coming months.

My hope is that Ruby will be sewn with love and gifted to lots of little ones this Christmas and beyond, and that she’ll be reimagined as so many things — a princess, a skater girl, a mermaid, a cowgirl, and so much more!

You can purchase the Ruby pattern right now in my shop or on Etsy if you prefer, then you can simply download it and get sewing right away. If you’re anything like me, you won’t be able to stop at just one!

Cheers, friends!
