Christmas Pillows to Make, Cover, or Buy

Are you a Christmas decor minimalist or maximalist? I definitely lean toward the minimal side, because too much extra decor makes me feel claustrophobic, but we have a few bins of beloved Christmas decorations we love to pull out every year (I will always love and cherish my Willow Tree Nativity that a dear friend gifted me piece by piece over several years!)

Festive pillows are one item that can really pack a big punch in your Christmas decorating and I’ve pinned some really great DIY Christmas pillow ideas this season! I’m excited to share them with you today, along with a hack for having Christmas pillows on display at Christmastime, but not having to store them, by making holiday covers for your existing throw pillows.

And if you don’t have time to sew Christmas pillows this year, I’ve scouted out six modern Christmas pillows you can buy instead, so stay ‘til the end to see those!

How I Recovered My Throw Pillows for Christmas

Now for my Christmas pillow hack! The other reason I’m a decor minimalist is because we move often as an Army family and the storage is never the same from place to place. We don’t always choose our house and living on post can mean minimal space for extra Christmas bins.

So, when I wanted to make a Christmas pillow out of a vintage fabric I’d found, I opted to slipcover my existing throw pillows instead of starting from scratch and having to store bulky pillows in my bin. These pillows add a lot to the Chirstmasy look of our living room without adding large items to store! After Christmas, I just take them off and fold put them in the bin with our stockings and things.

I made the covers with an envelope style backs so they’re easy to slip on and off. Do you have any Christmas decor hacks? I’d love to hear them!
