Baby bibs make the best little quick-to-sew, handmade baby gifts! Whether you’re making some for your own babies or for your grandbabies, or need a fun project to sew for a baby shower, I promise you, these bibs will fit the bill.

I’ve made a lot of baby bibs over the years for gifts and they’re always appreciated by moms-to-be. So today I’m sharing a complete video tutorial for how to sew a baby bib, with a free, printable bib template that can be adapted to any size. I even recently made them with a quilted front! I flimed that process too of course, so you can watch that here.

AND, I even made a printable PDF version of the bib tutorial that you can purchase for a few dollars from my shop! This is a more convenient way to make the bibs over and over without having to refer back to the video every time.

I like to whip up baby bibs in sets of three, in fun coordinating fabrics and I finish my bibs with the cute Kam snaps and pliers, which I demonstrate in the video.

This tutorial is totally beginner friendly, even kids can sew these up! Since some people prefer videos and others prefer photos, I’ve included both. Scroll down for the video, then scroll some more for the links to the tools I recommended in the tutorial. Then scroll down a bit more to grab the free downloadable baby bib pattern or to see the tutorial in photo/written instruction form.

Don’t forget to download the free bib pattern piece before you get started! Or of course, you can now purchase a printable PDF version of this pattern and instructions in my shop. If you plan to make this pattern more than once, you may want to consider purchasing the pattern to have on hand. Better yet, it’s one of the four patterns in my Sew for Baby Pattern Bundle, if you want to sew up a set of baby gear.

I can’t wait to see the bibs you make! Be sure and share them with me, I love to receive email or Instagram tags or DMs from those who make cute things with my tutorials.

Below is the bib pattern piece, in case you missed the link above. You can right click the image, save it to your computer and print from there (be sure and print it at 100% scale! OR, you can click here for the Google Drive version instead.

The pattern as-is will fit little babies, up to 6 months or more. But you can very easily adjust this pattern to fit older babies and toddlers. Slash the pattern a few inches from the bottom to lengthen it, and to add width and expand the neck opening, simply place the pattern farther from the fold. It can be helpful to use an existing bib in the right size as a guide (or take your tape measure to the store and do some market research, ha!) Here’s what that expansion looks like laid out and ready to cut:
