Annie's Fat Quarter Kit Club: A Review

Surprise fabric in the mail every month?? Yes please, sign me up!

I’ll be real honest and say that I signed up for Annie’s fat quarter club because I became an affiliate for Annie’s and I wanted to see if this was something that was worth recommending to you. I 100% expected to receive fabrics that I did not like and would never use. I thought I’d keep it for a couple months and then quit.

Ha! The opposite thing happened. I LOVED what they sent! I have gotten such great, beautiful fat quarter collections every single time and I have used the heck out of them! It’s been over six months now and I’m definitely not cancelling anytime soon. And let me tell you, there is no happy mail like fabric happy mail! I get so excited to see that package in my mailbox each month.

What are Annie’s Kit Clubs?

Annie’s is a reputable online fabric and craft supply company with a vast inventory that has been around for many, many years. They also offer several subscription kit clubs to which you can subscribe. So you pay automatically each month until you cancel, and they send you a package in the mail each month. So for the fat quarter kit club, I receive six surprise fat quarters monthly (in cute packaging, of course!) The fabrics come from a collection, so they coordinate with each other, and you can choose prints or solids.

Other kit clubs include quilting, crochet and knitting, Christmas crafts, and even kids craft and woodworking kits! Something for everyone. You can check out all the kit club options here.

Build Your Fabric Stash the Fun Way

I’m not a big fabric stash shopper. If I need something specific, I go buy it, but I’m not one to notice that I’m low on a certain color, or on solids, or whatever, so I don’t think that way when I fabric shop. Oftentimes this results in my not having much in my stash that coordinates with each other, so it’s a problem when I’m trying to select fabrics for a project.

The kit club has really helped me in that regard! It’s been so nice to receive things that match each other, and I’ve really put them to use. The first collection I received was perfect for my drawstring pouches. I was working on this tutorial these fabrics arrived, so I was able to make several pouches without having dig around for coordinating fabrics, or go shopping.

Try Fabrics You Wouldn’t Have Purchased Otherwise

Like I said, I’m not a very methodical fabric shopper. Weird since I’m a sewing blogger, I know, but I just tend to buy what I need when I need it. I also feel it’s wise to keep a small fabric stash to avoid waste and save money, but that’s a discussion for another time. However, just like my Stitch Fix subscription always surprises me with clothes I love, but wouldn’t have otherwise even glanced at in a store, my Annie’s fat quarter club has sent me the most beautiful fabrics that I otherwise would probably never have even seen. And if I’d seen them, I definitely wouldn’t have purchased six coordinating prints in the same collection. I don’t know why, my brain just doesn’t think that way! I’m a scrappy sewist, I guess.

Also, aren’t fabrics just so much prettier in person than on your screen?

How I’ve Used my Annie’s Fabrics

I have had no trouble using the fabrics Annie’s has sent! With the exception of the stack of batiks I got one month that I gifted to my mom, I’ve put every single set to immediate use.

Last month, my package arrived as I was working on the bunny doll and the plaid print was absolutely perfect for the bunny’s romper.

My most recent collection arrived last week as I happened to be working on a baby quilt. I was using scraps of pinks and greens and couldn’t believe it when I opened the package and the fabrics were from the Beautiful Day collection by Coriander Quilts and they were all pink and green! Serendipity. I was able to incorporate a few of the prints into my quilt top.

SO, all this to say, Annie’s Kit Club is something I can heartily recommend! It’s been so fun for me and I have really come to look forward to it every month.
