Vol 4: Loads of Joy!
Big News!
I have big personal news this week! Our oldest daughter Natalie got engaged! We are so thrilled for these two, and it’s just been a week full of joy over this big event.
When they started talking about getting married, I started collecting some things to put in a gift for her bridal shower. I’m trying to collect vintage home goods, but not tchotchkes, if that makes sense. So far I have some lovely crisp white embroidered pillow cases from an estate sale, some mid century candle sconces I’ve had for awhile that she really loves, and I’m looking for a cake plate or other serving pieces that look like her.
I also bought a nice table cloth and candelabra for the impromptu engagement party we threw them, that I can now put in the bin as part of the gift! I’ll probably try to pick some other things around our home that I know she loves and include those also.
Pattern of the Week
I thought it would be so fun to feature a pattern of the week in these newsletters at a discount! A few days ago, I created a bundle of some of my newer animal doll patterns, so that’s what I’ve picked for this week. You can take 15% off of this already discounted bundle this week in my shop, no code needed (discount is reflected in cart). Shop here or on Etsy if you prefer! Sale ends on Feb. 23, 2026.
A New Improv Quilt!
I shared these improv butterflies a few weeks ago, but yesterday I posted a video on YouTube with the wonky butterfly tutorial and where I’m headed with this fun quilt. So hop over to watch that if you want!
Spring Sewing Plans
I’ve been making some garment sewing plans now that Spring is coming! I really enjoy sewing clothes for the warmer months more than the winter months. I found time to make a Blackwood Cardigan out of a fun green bamboo knit from Surge Fabrics. It’s a nice heavy weight, perfect for this kind of thing. I get a lot of wear out of cardigans in the Spring, so I’m glad to have this in my closet. I’m planning one more out of a striped knit!
Galentines Day
My girls had some friends over for a cute little galentines party. They’re all college aged and yapped and ate and crafted and had a great time. I wanted to share because I think the crafty project they planned is so cute! Natalie bought little votives and plain glass votive holders, along with craft paint. They all painted on the glass and they look so sweet. Layla took this picture.
Watercolor
I promised I’d show you the Star Wars landscape I painted Casey for Valentines Day. It turned out okay and he loves it. I think I really nailed the top half and if I did it over, I know I could get the bottom half even better. But a year ago, I couldn’t have done it at all, so I’m proud of all I’ve learned!
I’ve been working through the exercises in this watercolor book as well and It’s been really fun! Highly recommend.
That’s all for today, thanks for reading!
Happy Sewing!
Nikki
